Bejo can look back on a successful Fruit Logistica. Not only an entirely new stand, but also several new concepts and product forms put Bejo in the spotlight. Purple Power, attractive purple varieties with a high level of nutrients, proved to be very popular. The Purple Power applies to more than 40 varieties in 15 crops. The healthy, natural content matter of these varieties fit perfectly in the current health trend. They also provide a colourful variation on your plate.

Carrots and taste

Taste has been an item in carrots for a long time. But what is taste exactly? And how is this measured? Bejo has been carrying out taste tests through an expert panel at Wageningen University. During these tests, 13 unique characteristics are defined in terms of what you taste, the aromas and the structure of the carrot. Together, they determine the taste of the carrot variety.  Following years of research, the Mokum and Adana varieties are ranked the best. They give a real boost to the snack market. The snack carrot breeding programme will be developed further on the basis of these standards.

It is important that we can have discussions with various partners from the entire chain at Fruit Logistica. All in all, Fruit Logistica was a very good and inspiring event’.

Innovations

In addition to taste, health and convenience, the cornerstones of our innovative vegetable concepts, attention was given to babyleaf, various colourful varieties with the same amount of growing days, which can be presented together in the chain. But there was also attention for introductions in iceberg lettuce, for the seed enhancing formula B-Mox and for Organic – RIGHT from the START.

Pieter Gabriels, Director Bejo Samen GmbH, says: ‘It is important that we can have discussions with various partners from the entire chain at Fruit Logistica. Our direct customers, such as growers and plant nurseries, visited our stand, of course, but also traders, processors and retail organisations. We were even visited by people from the food service industry. Our stand provided us with opportunities to discuss our concepts, such as Coolwrap cabbage rolls, Kohrispy Kohlrabi snacks and the entire range of purple vegetables bundled under the name ‘Purple Power’, with the latter target group. Visitors to our stand were surprised by the variety of vegetables that we presented in this concept, and by the extra health aspects of purple vegetables’. All in all, Fruit Logistica was a very good and inspiring event’.
