At the start of the new onion season 2023-2024, Bejo introduces B-Mox® improved priming for onion seed.
B-Mox® improved priming
To produce a healthy, uniform crop it is important that young plants get a strong start. That is why researchers and specialists at Bejo have developed the innovative B-Mox® seed enhancing technology. B-Mox® enhances the power of the seed, stimulating its growth at the earliest stage and improving the vigour of the plant. Throughout the growing period, plants demonstrate improved stress tolerance and better overall health as a result of a more fully developed root system. This provides the grower with reduced risks during the vulnerable early growth phase of the plant, more stress tolerant plants, and higher yields.
Characteristics:
- provides stronger, more uniform germination
- strengthens the plant in the earliest stage
- stimulates better root development
- reduces risks for growers in the vulnerable early growth stage
- makes plants more resilient throughout the growth period
- SKAL-certified and permitted for use in organic agriculture.
- applied by default to all primed onion seed.
Now also available for onion seed
Already in 2017, Bejo introduced B-Mox® technology for carrot. Since its introduction, many carrot growers have experienced the advantages of B-Mox®, with stronger and more uniform crops and higher pack-out, compared to non-primed seeds. Now onion growers can also benefit from B-Mox® seed improving technology. As of this season, all Bejo primed onion seed will be enhanced with B-Mox® improved priming.

Research and field trials
Dr. Liesbeth van der Heijden, Senior Researcher at the Bejo Seed Technology Department, has been leading this project for many years and is enthusiastic of its potential: “B-Mox® technology has been specifically developed for modern cultivation methods which emphasize a strong plant is less sensitive to stress. We are proud to add onion seed to our B-Mox® range, next to carrot and rooted parsley and we will continue our research because in the long term we also see potential in other crops”.
More than 5 years of testing, both in the lab and in the field, has proven the effectiveness of B-Mox® in onion. Trials were mainly conducted in Western Europe. Henrik Jørgensen, Sales Manager at SeedCom, was closely involved in the trials in Denmark: “I am very positive about the trials I have seen in our fields and with customers. B-Mox® helps the plants develop a good root system early in the growth stage, resulting in a healthier crop and a better yield.”
